Job Description

Job Description:

  • Works closely with teachers and administrators to provide effective learning and social emotional interventions prior to the need for special education classification
  • Works closely wit school-based and district office personnel to close special education achievement gaps
  • Facilitates teacher learning and practices in specially designed instruction and high leverage strategies in supporting students with disabilities
  • Supports teachers in understanding and implementing NYS and Federal special education and Section 504 regulations
  • Maintains knowledge of developments and innovations in special education and social-emotional learning by reading current literature, attending professional meetings/conferences and discussing current developments with others in these fields
  • Works collaboratively K-12 to support the district's implementation of MTSS
  • Designs and works collaboratively with staff for the purposes of providing job-embedded professional development programs and practices
  • Provide ongoing culturally responsive leadership, focusing on equity and supporting a reduction in disproportionate numbers of classified students
  • Facilities student, parent, and staff communication to support an equitable learning environment for the school community
  • Facilitates, teaches and models effective models of co-teaching and works collaboratively with teacher teams to support best practices
  • Supports teachers and teams with the development and implementation of student, classroom and building management plans as well as Special Education Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Supports teachers in writing and implementing quality IEPs, goal setting, and progress monitoring
  • Supports teachers and administrators in determining appropriate programming for students in the continuum of special education services
Job Qualifications


  • NYS certification in special education
  • A minimum of 4 years of successful experience in special education
  • Expertise in special education and social emotional learning including supports and interventions 
  • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with pupils, parents and staff
  • Skills to work on a variety of tasks in a flexible manner and can demonstrate initiative and independent work
